A two page feature by Mary Leland.

Cork Hospitality ..... "We also stayed in a
wonderful find in Bandon. Kilbrogan House (www.kilbrogan.com)
where you can stay in the Georgian house itself, or, as
we did, in The Arches, renovated stables complete with
wooden herringbone floors, crisp starched white sheets
and a sublime breakfast - thanks Catherine!" |

Fodor's Ireland 2006 - "Kilbrogan House ..
has been the community's architectural star since it was
built in 1818. ... "The ornate plasterwork could easily
grace a much larger country mansion, as could the
elaborate flying staircase. Large windows afford
garden views and bring streams of sunlight into the
spacious rooms, which are furnished with well-selected
antiques, original art and handmade rugs over polished
wood floors...." |
Ireland of the Welcomes Magazine Article -
Sept/Oct 2005 : "... an architectural gem, its
ornate plasterwork carefully restored, original floor
tiling exposed, windows replaced with wooden replicas of
the originals and a sunny conservatory filled with
bright red geraniums.." "...The
ensemble gives a tantalising glimpse of style and
elegance of Bandon in its 19th-century heyday."

From:
BLP, Chicago, Illinois
While most of Ireland provides a view of the major
changes in the past decade, Kilbrogan House provided a
refreshing break for me on my journey to your country.
As soon as I entered through Kilbrogan’s distinguished
gates, the clock rolled back to the 19th
century. The big Georgian home and the long and low
stables provided a glimpse of a fast disappearing past
not often seen in this big box world. That was the first
image that I remember. The next memory, when I saw the
big home’s sweeping entryway. The lovely sitting room
and the spacious dining room were comfortable and
splendid---not an easy combination I’m certain. I could
imagine the family events that have been held in these
rooms---the happy times and the wonderful memories. In
fact, I can almost hear the party music and taste the
sweet sticky puddings. And the wonderful homemade breads
at breakfast certainly exceeded my expectations. But I
jump ahead too quickly.
Kilbrogan is a well-loved home in addition to a
welcoming bed and breakfast. The guest rooms mix modern
convenience with traditional elegance. Both provide
extraordinary comfort---heated towel racks are a small
but typical amenity. The bathrooms have great showers
and big, roomy tubs. The bedrooms are roomy and airy and
perfect for refreshing sleep. One friend of mine said
that this home was the highlight of her Irish visit. And
I unreservedly agree.
